Psychology and tools for understanding the self have always fascinated me, and this project was born from that passion.
One day, I came across Therapy Jeff on Instagram (link to profile), where he shared insights about the Johari Window method – a framework to explore how we see ourselves and how others perceive us. Intrigued, I did some digging and found an old but still useful tool for it (Kevan’s Johari Window). While it got the job done, I felt there was room for improvement: more adjectives, better visuals, private profile links, and an overall modernized experience.
As luck would have it, johari-window.com was available as a domain, so I grabbed it and got to work! Using Next.js (because I believe in Static Site Generation) and hosting on AWS Lightsail, I built a new version of this tool with enhanced functionality and a fresh design.
Since launching, over 200 Johari Windows have been created in just three weeks, and the site continues to attract daily traffic (thank you, Google Analytics!). For me, that’s already a huge success. While I don’t plan to monetize the site, there’s a small “Buy Me a Coffee” link – who knows, maybe one day it’ll cover the server costs!
